The feast of the Birth of John the Baptist

I can only imagine the celebration that took place at the birth of John the Baptist. How overjoyed his parents must have been. I pray that everyone would revel in the birth of the child that has been entrusted to each of them and that each one would be a source of awe as they are nurtured and cared for. God has entrusted each of us parents with the treasure, more precious than gold. We are to guide them, through holiness and instruction and right living to the Father that made them. An awesome responsibility!

Thanks be to God!

  1. Yes, and very daunting. It seems I do most of my parenting on my knees . . . as in, "God help me!"

BTW, I hope you don't mind, but I tagged you!

  2. I am just now thinking that Mary was probably there for the birth, since she went to visit when Elizabeth was six months pregnant and stayed for three months. I wonder why that never came to mind before? Yes, it must have been so joyous!

  3. Thank you all. I must say that when I thought about this feast, I wondered why I had never considered St. John's birth before...Obviously, he didn't just appear. And then to be sent to be the herald of the Messiah as well. It is pretty enthralling. and as gabrielle said I had not considered the fact that our Blessed Mother would have been in attendance. What wonderful inspiration for family and the support we are to offer as members of that family!!

  5. I have noticed there are times when I am guided to a blog for the purpose of reinforcing or enhancing what I have discussed or thought. Again the Amazing Spirit at work. Thank you for your visit.

  6. An Awesome responsibilty indeed, Cathy, and I'm left wondering how those who don't seek the assistance, support and comfort - not to mention guidance and wisdom, that comes to us parents through prayer, ever get by.

I suppose the best thing to do if we know of such families is to spiritually adopt them and bring them and their needs to the Holy Family in prayer?
