The Pond Has a Hole In It...

The Upper Pond
Taken 5/18/2008

I will make rivers well up on barren heights,
and fountains in the midst of valleys;
turn the wilderness into a lake,
and dry ground into waterspring.

Isaiah 41:18
(The Jerusalem Bible)

Well, it would seem that we have another hole in the larger of the two lily ponds. We had one in it before but Ron was able to find it and repair it. He hasn't been that successful this time. The water lilies in both ponds, however, are really very pretty this year. The fish are gone and Freddie, our resident frog has taken up residence elsewhere, I suspect. Last year the lily pond was the only thing in the garden that didn't need work. Now, with the results of the drought last summer and the ice storms this winter it has really taken a toll on the yard. I have been glad that the dandelions that Ron worked diligently to keep down for the last two years did not return. So we have our work cut out for us with the "barren heights" and the "dry ground."

It just means we'll just have to keep pluggin' along, little by little.

Have a Grand Weekend!!

  3. aselah,I must say, after I had posted this, I realized how "hope" is nurturing when we have expectations for our lives (or gardens, et.al.). And, how without God, those hopes can become despair for those who cannot see beyond the expectations. Maybe that is why so many have no "dreams" or aspirations...they also lack faith and trust. We cannot hope without faith in the outcome. And without love of God, self and others we become unfulfilled. So, here we are and St. Paul has already given us this lesson...Thank you for you insight!

  5. Water for the thirsty soul!

Thank you for sharing this photo of your beautiful pond. You may not think so now that it is need of repairs, but it is beautiful nevertheless!
Here in Boston many of the neighbors are putting Koi Ponds in their small back yards to get a bit of nature in the middle of the inner city.
    It is refreshing to see.
    Lovely blog you have here.
    Blessings!

Now they live in Charlotte and so visits to MA have been curtailed for the time being. Thank you for your visit and kind words!

  7. I love that verse from Isaiah.
I'm sure with our gentle nurturing the garden, and pond will revive and become even more beautiful in time than even before.

  13. Sorry to hear about your pond troubles Cathy. You have a beautiful pond. I've always wanted to have one. One time I did I made the mistake of making it under our cherry tree. Big mistake.

  14. Out here on the dry high prairies, this verse ought to be our theme song. We're working to repair our two ponds right now, too. Having lain dormant for two years, they're almost beyond hope. But my 14 yo has taken on the project, bless him. IF a 14 yo with a purpose can't do it, nobody can! It's always wortht the effort! Blessings, Cathy!
